4. TeraTerm: Changing Your Partner Window Length and Width

  1. Open up a Partner connection as you normally would by clicking on the Partner (or “TeraTerm”) icon.

  2. Log in. In the examples below, the user opened the Correct Mistakes program, oops. You can change the size from any program.

  3. In the menus at the top of your screen, choose Setup->Terminal

  4. You will see two numbers, indicating the width and length of your Partner windows. PCC's default is 80 by 25. Try changing the 25 lines to 30 or 35. You can also change the width to 100 or larger, but it will only be visible in certain reports.

  5. Do not change the other settings in this window. In particular, please note that the the “Term Size = Win Size” box should not be checked. The “Auto Window Resize” box should be checked.

  6. Click “OK” to proceed with the changes.

  7. Your window will jump to a larger size and turn blank. Redraw your screen by pressing Ctrl-L (hold down the "CTRL" key, and press the "L" key). If your screen remains blank, try pressing F12 to change the screen. In some cases, you may need to quit the program you are running and run it again to see the changes.

Below is our new oops screen. It now has 35 rows:

  8. If you are happy with your new screen size, and want that size every time you log in to Partner, then: Click on the "Setup" window and choose "Save Setup..." When the "Save..." dialog box appears, just click the "Save" button in the lower right hand corner.

  9. You can try out as many different lengths and widths as you want until you find the right size for you.

    Caution

Do not make your window smaller than 80 columns by 25 lines! If you do, you will see an error warning you that your screen is too small.

    Note

If your Partner window runs off the end of the screen, then your font size is too big for the window size you have chosen. You can make the letters smaller if you wish. In the menus, select Setup->Font. Good sizes for running Partner are 10, 11, or 12. Read the appendix below for another way to increase your screen's viewable area.

Whatever changes you make to the window or the font, remember to choose the "Save Settings" option. Otherwise, the next time you open up a Partner window it will not remember the size you have chosen.
